This is a glassy tube of fused sand produced at the impact site of a lightning strike during a thunderstorm. The quartz grains are changed by the intense heat into shiny quartz glass, which is known as Lechatelierite, and which may be seen lining the central tubular cavity through the length of the specimen. |

A very good piece with unusually large sections of olivine, variety peridot crystals. Formed more than a million years ago deep down under earth's crust and brought to the surface by volcanic eruptions this "Olivine Bombs", also known as "Volcanic Bombs", have a rough pitted surface of scoria, but when cut or broken they come to life exhibiting thousands of sugar like sparkling green crystals of olivine. |
