Formed more than a million years ago deep down under earth's crust and brought to the surface by volcanic eruptions this "Olivine Bomb", also known as "Volcanic Bomb", has a very thin crust, but when cut or broken, as shown on the picture, it comes to life exhibiting thousands of sugar like sparkling green crystals of olivine. |

The quartz grains are changed by the intense heat into shiny quartz glass, which is known as Lechatelierite, and which may be seen lining the central tubular cavity through the length of the specimen. |
