METEORITES, TEKTITES & More > MURCHISON
On 28 September 1969 at 11 am I was prospecting with my family for minerals some 20 km from the town of Murchison, Victoria in Australia when a tremendous thunder was heard by all of us. It was only in the evening when the local news was telling us about the fall of meteorite. The meteorite was named after the small town of Murchison and is one of the most studied meteorites; it was an observed fall with a large mass of some 100 kg and it belongs to meteorites rich in organic compounds like amino acids such as glycine , alanine and glutamic acid as well as unusual ones like isovaline and pseudoleucine, and many more.
